Default Best filesystem to use for SQLAnywhere V11.01 - 05-05-2009 , 06:24 PM

Hi,

We are about to transfer our DB from Netware to SusE Enterprise and
would like to know if there is a preferred filesystem to use with SQLA
V11.01.

Thanks,

Etienne.

I don't know if there is a best one. I was hoping
that other Linux users would have added their actual
experiences to this thread by now. [and they may still yet]

iAnywhere does not certify file systems and try to work
with any that are in common use to truly unstable
ones or highly untested one should be avoided.

You are wise to check around though, since things
change faster in the Linux world than almost any
where else. From our side read about the OS and
platforms tested and expected to work with our
products from these links:

http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1035824
http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1002288
http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1035824#distributions

you will notice there is not one whiff of a mention
of the various file systems available for Unix or
Linux.

Personally (only) for my use, if this was going to be
a production system requiring high stability and high
capacity (or needing to support a large volume of accesses
in a 7x24 setting ) I would tend to go with the more
stable ones first (which probably includes ext3, ext4
and probably some others), avoid the more experimental
ones. After that rule-o-thumb I would go for speed,
capacity and ease of maintenance; verified by my own
testing.

For my developement and test boxes I may tend
to get a little more exotic so I could anticipate
what new distros would do to me and future
customers a little better.

But your mileage and testing may vary.

HTH and Best of Luck
