Default windows7 xp mode - 01-12-2010 , 07:50 PM

Hi,
We use PB v9.0.2 ebf 3044 32 bit version

My new computer is 64 bit windows 7. I purchased the windows professional
so that I could run xp mode specifically for Sybase and PB. However when I
try to set up my ODBC connection, I get the follwoing error "Connection
failed; Unable to start specified database I/O error".

I have installed all the software and the database on the virtual windows xp
mode side. Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions on what
I might try?

Thanks
Loya

Loya,

Windows 7 is supported with ASA 9.0.2 build 3942 and higher.

For you issue, can you provide all the connection information for the DSN?

What version of SQL Anywhere are you using?
The new securtiy rules in Windows Vista/7 can prevent you from opening a
file for write if it is in the "program files" folder, which is where the SA
sample database was placed during install in previous versions. Where is
your database file?

After reading your email I moved the database to a different folder. Now I
don't get an error, but it just acts like it's running, but never finishes.

I think though I need to ask a few more questions before you answer.

I am not trying to run on Windows 7, but rather the xp mode of windows 7.
The reason I am doing that is because I think (please let me know if this is
correct) that I need to run the 32 bit version because that is what all the
servers are for the users of our software product. Also all the other
developers use 32 bit machines. So I don't think I can develope on a 64 bit
for use on 32 bit computers, or can I?

Thanks,
Loya

Josh,
If I update to ebf 3942, would I also need to update all the devlopers
computers and the users of our software product? Would this update keep it
a 32 bit application, or make it a 64 bit application? As I said in an
email to one of your colleagues, everyone elses computers are 32 bit, so I
think (I may be wrong) that I need to stay with 32 bit. That is why I
downloaded Windows 7 professional and then xp mode.

Perhaps I am making this more difficult than need be!

Thanks
Loya
