Default What port does the SQL Anywhere Monitor use? - 09-02-2009 , 02:55 PM

Does anyone know what port, Protocols and Services (PPS) that SQL Anywhere
Monitor use?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

We were able to locate SM.BAT which contains the port number:

"%SQLANY11%\bin32\dbspawn.exe" -f "%SQLANY11%\bin32\dbsrv11.exe" -gk
all -qi -n %SAM_NAME% -xs http(port=4950) servermonitor.db

Can we change the port number here?

I guess since SQL Anywhere Monitor is a database engine therefore it would
have the same protocols as any database server....Is this correct?

Hi,

The SQL Anywhere Monitor does indeed use port 4950. We have reserved that
port with IANA to reduce the change of conflict with other programs. Do you
have a specific need to use a different port number? We would be very
interested in hearing about your experiences.

Chris,

Thank you very much for your helps. Our SA have these questions:

What are the Default, Ports and Protocols that the Sybase Monitor Listen on,
and communicates outbound on.

e.g.

TCP UDP
sybase-sqlany 1498/tcp Sybase SQL Any
sybase-sqlany 1498/udp Sybase SQL Any
# Dave Neudoerffer
<Dave.Neudoerffer&ianywhere.com>

Monitor server to Consolidated database server communications

=
Browser client to Monitor Server http://localhost:4950.
Port: 4950 Protocol: HTTP
Is the Report Service addressable from a remote workstation ?
If so Can this be restricted to HTTPS, or disabled, from being addressed
form any system other than the client on the Monitor server.
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers
sybasesrvmon 4950/tcp Sybase Server Monitor
sybasesrvmon 4950/udp Sybase Server Monitor
# Chris Irie <irie&sybase.com> 26 March 2008

==
What are the Names of the Services added to a Monitor Service

==

We do not have a specific need to use a different port number
Our need to to completely document all Ports and Protocols in use when
adding the Monitor service to Production.

Best regards,
Rachan Terrell

Hi Rachan,

As you quoted, the port and protocol used by the SQL Anywhere Monitor are
4950 and HTTP. "Sybase Server Monitor" is the same thing as the "SQL
Anywhere Monitor". The name was changed after the port was registered, and
before we released the software.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you wondering what database
objects are created in the server being monitored? If so, they are
documented here:
http://dcx.sybase.com/index.php#http...d-objects.html

You can connect to the SQL Anywhere Monitor from any workstation, so long as
it is allowed by your firewall.

You can configure the SQL Anywhere Monitor to use HTTPS. We describe how to
do this in a whitepaper:

We don't use port 1498 for SQL Anywhere anymore - that was reserved for
SQL Anywhere version 5.x. Beginning with version 6.0, we use port 2638.

If you're using the dbns utility, that uses port 3968.
