Default V10 charsets folder - 11-02-2009 , 01:17 AM

Is it necessary to deploy the charsets folder.

If so, is it documented in the manual?

Thanks
Eric

There are very few things that use that now (V10 or V11)
but one thing that may catch you off guard is the case
where you are upgrading older databases. It can be
required there.

Another place it comes up is with the LTM (which may
not be your concern).

I don't see it listed as a requirement but there are ML
errors mentioning UNILIB directly (such as -10099
and -10016) which would require that directory if they
are not just vestigual ... so support for older -xo clients
might require it still (maybe but don't quote me on that
one just yet)

So, while historical, there are some cases still.

[had you had a history of using SBCS charset
names that only exist in that directory I would
be a little more concerned if you do not]

I found that under ( OS set to cp950 , Big5, Chinese (Traditional) ), the
DB in sybase 5.5 with charset IBM850 would fail on upgrade to strucure of
Sybase 10.

Same process would work fine ( needed to add charset=ibm850 into the ODBC
driver ) if the OS was English ( cp1252 ).
