Default Sybase Central does not respond - 11-19-2007 , 11:32 AM

Hello everybody, I have a problem with my current
installation of Sybase. When I press Start->Programs->Sybase
Central the mouse cursor turns in the hourglass for a few
seconds and then it turns back to the arrow without anything
else happening: Sybase Central simply won't open.
In a previous post Frank told me to look in the directory
C:\Documents and Settings\<current user login name>\ for an
error log.
I found only a file named .scUserPreferences41 that
contained the following text:

# Fri Feb 02 11:19:36 CET 2007
#
ConnectionProfileData/Adaptive Server Anywhere 8.0
Sample/Autostart=false
#
#
#
#
#
#
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/StatusbarVisible=true
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/Location=10 10 600 400
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/ToolbarVisible=true
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/ToolbarSplitter=200
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/Splitter=200
UserPrefRepositoryInfo/Version=4
#
ProviderData/asa80/Autoload=true
#
ProviderData/mobilink80/Autoload=true
#
#
#

I didn't find any other error log. Please note that on the
same computer I previously installed a trial version of ASA,
then I replaced it with the licensed version that started to
give the problems I described. Is it possible that the
unistallation of the trial version didn't work properly?
Thanks to anyone!!
Elisabetta

Sorry, maybe I should give more detail.
I have Sybase SQL Anywhere 8 installed on a win 2k server
machine.
Thank you

Try typing:
scjview.exe -batch

This will create a batch file to launch Sybase Central.
See what information you get when you run this is a DOS box.

thanks,

Paul

Paul's way sounds cleaner, but here is another way.

I have found that it has something to do with the Java compiler when
Sybase Central launches.

try to add the -nojit flag to the shortcut which launches Sybase
Central.
eg

Start | Programs | Sybase SQL Anywhere 8 > ...RIGHTCLICK the SYBASE
CENTRAL shortcut and click properties.
Here you can change the short cut to look like this
"C:\Program Files\Sybase\Shared\Sybase Central 4.1\scjview.exe" -nojit

which should successfully launch the Sybase Central with no hickups!
