Default SQL Anywhere 11 on Vista - starting database on port... - 09-15-2009 , 03:04 AM

I was trying to install SQL Anywhere 11 on my Vista and while the
installation tried to create the sample databases it was 'stuck' at
the 'starting on port 2638' point and didn't complete the
installation. I somehow managed to complete the installation but the
same thing happens whenever i try to create a database or connect to a
database even if it changes to another port. I've checked the port
before execution and was not in use. I have already installed Sybase 7
and Sybase 8 on my system and no such thing ever happened.
Is there any suggestion of a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Do you have any antivirus/firewall software that might be blocking the
port or might you be missing a pop-up window asking if you want to allow
access to that port?

Sorry, I don't have any other simple suggestions. If you don't get any
more posts with suggestions, your best bet would be to report the
problem to tech support.

Can you try disabling the IPv6 layer?

dbsrv11 -n test_case -x tcpip(IPv6=NO)

Hello,

I am coming back with the same problem.

I had to format my disk and reinstall Windows Vista Ultimate and all
of my programs.
While trying to install SQL Anywhere 11 on my Vista and while the
installation tried to create the sample databases it seems not be
able to go any further than the action 'starting on port 2638' point
not leting me
cancel installation or any other action.

On my previous installed Vista, I just interrupted
the installation by pressing the shut-down button and I was able to
work with SA 11
by using the parameter -x tcpip(IPv6=NO) to start any database.

Now every time a Windows Update is installed and I restart my system
SA 11 is uninstalled.
Are there any system parameters i should change to have a normal
installation of SA 11?

thanks

Hello once more...

It was my antivirus (NOD32 2.7) that blocked the installtion at the
creation of sample databases.
once I unistalled it (quiting the application didn't help...) I was
able
to fully complete the installation of SA 11.
