Default Shared Directory with Multiple Versions - 12-18-2003 , 01:13 AM

I have seen in other threads that multiple version of ASA can be installed
on the same system. What I need to know is if the Shared Files directory can
be shared among the different versions or if I need to separate it out
between versions.

Which of the following is the correct setup for shared files with multiple
versions on the same system

Version 7, 8, and 9 shared files go into c:\sybase\shared
or
Version 7.shared files go into c:\sybase\shared7 and
Version 8 shared files go into c:\sybase\shared8 and
Version 9 shared files go into c:\sybase\shared9

Thanks,

I run 5.5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 on the same laptop with the same shared
folder. It's just Sybase Central, jConnect and Sun JDK stuff that goes
there, not core ASA engine bits. Anyway, it is really *unlikely* that
you would run multiple versions of Sybase Central at the same time
because the new versions work with old engines and the old versions
sucked so badly.

The *only* real problem I know of is, if you switch between Version 7
dbisql.exe and Version 8 dbisql.exe, the fonts change between
microscopic and clown size. But again, if you have a modern dbisql.exe
installed there is no reason to run an older one... the older versions
sucked badly. Plus, you can right mouse - Customize to fix the font.
