Default Running two ASA 7 DBs on Same Server - 12-11-2003 , 01:15 PM

I want to run two ASA 7 Databases on the same server. One
for our timeclock app and the other for our menu system.
I've been warned that it could cause conflicts. Is it
possible to run two DBs on the same server?

Quite easy, in fact. The only thing to watch out for is to be sure
you know which one is on which port number, and specify that in the
startup config.

If you mean on the same database engine, it is simply adding each database
file name to the command line at startup. For example,

dbsrv7 {server_options} database1.db {database_options}
database2.db {database_options} .... databaseN.db {database_options}

The only thing you will want to watch for is "mismatch" in page size. If
the databases have a different page size then you will have an inefficient
use of cache because cache pages will be allocated at the same size as the
largest page size used by the mounted database.

Example

dbsrv9.exe 2kpage.db 4kpage.db

This server will allocate cache pages at 4K for both db's, but since
2kpage.db has 2K page sizes only have of each cache page is being used.

The engine will still run, but it's something to consider.

You can change page size by rebuilding (using dbunload) a database.
