Default Network connection issue with v5.5.04 - 10-24-2007 , 11:42 PM

I've spent four hours on this and can't figure it out.

I had no problems when my network consisted of all Win98 machines. When
I added a WinXP machine, however, that machine cannot see the Win98
SQLAnywhere server. isql even doesn't see it.

What could be preventing the XP box from seeing the server?

- This is a small (2 machine) network with 4-port Linksys router
(standard settings, nothing blocked)
- Windows Firewall is off, no extra security on XP machine
- Both machines are in the same Workgroup,
they can see each other's hard drives
- I can ping the Win98 machine from the XP box
- The ping IP address is the same as the server box dbsrv50 IP address
- the reverse also doesn't work: if I start the server on the XP box,
the Win98 box can't see any servers on the network.
- this used to work no problem when both machines were Win98,
is it possible it's just a Win98 issue networking with XP?

So if I can ping across the network, why can't a simple client like isql
see that there's a server there?

Here's startup parameters:

-x tcpip
-c 4M
-m
-gd all
-gk all
-p 1472
-ti 0
-tq 00:00
-n Enroll_Server
c:\Enroll\Data\Enroll.db

Stumped and frustrated,
Mike

Mike,

Does the ASA5.5 installation work at all on the XP machine? Can you
acccess a database which runs locally on this machine from ISQL on the
same machine?

You will need to use SA5.5.05 Build 2787 on Windows XP.

Yes, it runs fine on the same machine, running locally.

Chris,

There were two possible candidates for downloading:

---------------------------------------------------
1. SQL Anywhere - Express Bug Fix,
Update of 5.5.05 to build 2787 for Windows NT
Feb 2001
---------------------------------------------------
2. SQL Anywhere - Express Bug Fix Library (Windows NT, 2000, XP),
Update of 5.5.05 to build 2817
Dec 2001
---------------------------------------------------

You recommended #1.
I already had #2 installed. I checked the file dates and properties, and
all my files are build 2817.

Is that not better than build 2787?
Doesn't it include 2787?

Frankly, they way the website is setup for selecting an appropriate
patch takes work to figure out, it's not as simple as one would like it be.

I'm hoping you can shed some light on this.

Thanks

Mike
