A database that is being rebuilt will be running - dbunload will startup
the database if it is not running.

That said, you *should* isolate the database from connections that might
modify the database when doing a rebuild. To do so, it is recommended
that you use the personal server during the rebuild. This will not allow
connections from networked clients.

Thank You Chris , Reimer...

dbunload runs against a running database but how can a
running database be rebuilt.

Don't we have to stop the db to rebuild it.

Thanks... deepali

Chris I'll be copying the database files to another server
from the latest offline backup and rebuild and replace the
database and then I'll copy back the .db and .log and .mlg
files of the rebuilt database to the production server.

I'll take a downtime so that no users are connected and no
changes are being made to the transaction log so that the
rebuilt database is up to date.

I guess no other changes will be required in the odbc
connection and executable parameters for the service as
database name remains same.

Please let me know does rebuilding delete the transaction
log file and do I have to apply the transaction log to the
rebuilt database.

How can I do that...?

Thanks... deepali

A rebuilt database is a new, fresh database and will have its own
transaction log. The previous logs will not be needed by this database.
