Default Disable ping response on port 2638? - 11-05-2009 , 08:32 AM

We have a server running SQL Anywhere 10. An audit we had
didn't like the server responding to ping on port 2638. Is
it possible to disable the server responding to ping
requests without killing it? Thank you for any insights you
might have.

Joe,

This might be what you are looking for:
http://dcx.sybase.com/index.html#110...-dbserver.html

This causes the server not to start up any UDP broadcast listeners, you
will have to explicitly specify the host you are trying to connect to
the server if you disable this however.

Joe,

How did the audit ping the server on port 2638? Please explain.

The database server is listening on port 2638, but this is a requirement for any type of application
for network communication.
