Default Creating tables and altering views on Solaris takes huge time - 08-07-2009 , 02:24 AM

I find the time it takes creating around 1400 tables and
altering 100 views, ranges from 1 hour to 6 hours on
different machines/OS.

I see on any Windows, it takes one hour,
on Solaris it is different per architecture.
For
SunOS 5.10 Generic_137137-09 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210
-- it takes 90 minutes

SunOS 5.10 Generic_137137-09 sun4v sparc
SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120 -- it takes 6 hours

SUN 245 and SunOS magellan-sol8-18 5.8 Generic_117000-01
sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1000 -- it takes 6 hours
All the machines have 2GB or more RAM and at least Ultra III
dual processor.

How can I debug this problem?

thanks and regards,
-Vikrant

What version and build number of SQL Anywhere are you using?

Is the CPU load on the machines during the operations high or
negligible? Are the disk configurations and specifications comparable?

In general, direct performance comparisons between Windows and Solaris
SPARC are not extremely meaningful because of the different
architectures. However, the performance difference between the sun4u
boxes is interesting. (The sun4v box has a Niagara chip and is a
different architecture again.)
