Default crash on shutdown during backup - 10-29-2009 , 03:39 PM

Server version SA 10.0.1

Scenario
- create maintenance plan -> start at 20:00 -> include full image
backup without validate
- without any reason we shutdown database server via console
exactly at 20:01, hidden "backup" was started.
- dbsrv10 (console) not responding, sybase central couldn't connect on
server
- wait, wait, wait and nothing
- task manager -> end process dbsrv10.exe
- start database -> rollback and so on...
- validate database -> orphan page ... invalid database

OK, we made mistake with stopping server. But, there wasn't message
'One or more connections still open...'. or something other to inform
us that backup is in progress.

Of course, we have backup, apply log and everything is OK....

Sounds like a bug, the part about the database becoming invalid. If
you can repeat this symptom after applying the latest EBF, then you
could report it as a problem.

FWIW a backup suspends checkpoints, and a shutdown tries to take a
checkpoint, so there's a conceptual conflict here. If I had anything
to do with writing the code inside the server (I don't), that's where
I would probably code a bug <g>.
