Default ASA 9 Developer's edition - 12-04-2003 , 04:48 PM

All,

I am having a problem connecting to an ASA 9 dev edition server from another
machine on the network. I can ping the server IP address, so I know tcpip
works, but ISQL tells me that the database server cannot be found.

Is this allowed with the dev edition? I am evaluating and trying to test our
C/S app with it.

Thanks,

Yes it is allowed.

Can you give us the command line options that you user to start your server,
and the connection options that you are using on the client?

Have you tried using dbping?

Have you tried using the connection options "Debug=Yes"
e.g. dbping -c "uid=dba;pwd=sql;eng=your_engine_name;links=tcpip; debug=yes"
The "debug=yes" will give you lots of diagnostic information on what it is
doing while it is trying to connect.

Is it possible that either the client or the server boxes have a firewall
running on them? (BTW: What OS and version are you using?)

Are the two machines in the same subnet?

Try changing the "Check Network for Database Servers" checkbox located under
the startline entry on the connection dialog Database tab page. If that does
not work, click the Find button and verify that the server can be found.

In the ASA 9.0.0 docs, see the section:

ASA Database Administration Guide
Connecting to a Database
- Troubleshooting connections

Thanks for the responses, I found the problem and have ordered version 9 for
