Default Apply a Licence key directly to an existing .lic file - 08-07-2009 , 08:56 AM

Is the above possible without having to install the whole package?

If you just want to adjust the license information,
then you may not need the license key for that.
[see the dblic utility].

If by license key you mean you need to convert the
package from one type to another (say Developer/Eval
to a production license) or to enable or add components
(say encryption or high availability for example) then launching
the installer and keying in the license will be required.

But you don't need to run through to completion in most
cases. As soon as the key is recognized and the target
directories are known, you might be done at that point.

Not knowing what version and license key types are
behind your question, I cannot say specifically what
you will end up needing to do.

If you happen to be asking this for versions 10.0+ then
maybe this document will help

http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1056242

and for the specific licensing types in 11.0.1 maybe
this one
http://www.sybase.com/products/datab...re/neweditions

will help out as well.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply.

It's 10.0.1. All I wanted to do was create the .lic files (with the client's
licence key) prior to distributing it, with our application, to the client's
site. I already have the Developer/Eval licence on my PC. I know about the
capabilities of dblic.exe for specifiying Name/Company/Per-Seat/No.OfUsers
etc.

In that case, I'll run it through the install on a clean machine.

Cheers.
