Default 64-bit - 10-31-2007 , 10:58 AM

I'm a bit confused by something though. Your chart on this page
(http://www.ianywhere.com/products/su...html)indicates that
all of the SQL Anywhere versions from 8.03 on support Windows 64 bit
processing. However, one of our uers a while back informed us that they
could not get their version of Sybase (9.0.2.3137) to run on a 64-bit
machine. They also submitted the following from an ASA9 product brief:
"What's more, a 64-bit version of the software is available for Linux,
HP-UX, and is anticipated for 64-bit Windows operating systems." This
seems to indicate that 64-bit versions were not yet available. Are 64-bit
processors fully supported on our current level of ASA (9.0.2.3137)? Is
there any difference in that respect to the new version 10 of ASA? Thanks
for your help.

3137 is really old, almost GA... I don't think 64bit support was
offered until later in the 9.0.2 cycle... 3249 March 2006 is the
earliest EBF build for the x64 edition so the GA may have been just
prior to that.

FWIW it is a different install so I guess the answer to your question
is no, while the 32bit 9.0.2.3137 should *run* it does not fully
support 64bit.

What platform are you asking about? ia64 Itanium or x64 Xeon? Those
are different installs.

The supported platform matrix is the most up-to-date listing of the
platforms supported.

Not sure where your customer got their information, or the specific issue
they faced but 64bit versions of the v9.0.2 database engine are available
for the Windows 64bit operating system

As far as I can tell, support for Windows IA64 existed since 8.0.2
(though I'm not sure if it was there for the GA). Support for Windows
x64 first came out in 9.0.2 but not in the GA release. Maybe the product
brief was referring to x64 support? Though it still happens a bit today,
people back then were not careful about specifying *which* 64-bit
architecture they meant when they spoke about 64-bit Windows.
