Default partitions in 15.0 - 06-01-2007 , 01:14 AM

In manuals, I read 15.0 partitions can help improve
performance and help in maintenance tasks.

We dont have any partition tables. What if we partition all
table in our db? we have around 150 tables will it help ?
Any drawbacks?

we are using 2 CPU on solaris and SAN as our storage.

Partitioning everything is the BFI approach. First you
need to identify what your actual issues are. Do you
actually have performance issues?

It will be wasting your time and energy just partitioning
all the tables in the database.

Some tips:

1. Partitioning of large tables will improve performance
(History Tables, Date Range)
2. Partitioning on multiple-hardisks will improve
performance, if you have 2/3 HDD you will not be able to see
major improvements
3. Dual-CPU only slight improvement will be there..

If you do not plan properly, you may see performance issues
!! I suggest you go thru the partition information and then
take a call.

Thanks
Vasu
