Sql Server 2005 : Can SSMS be reliably used to relocate data ( .mdf ) and
log ( .ldf ) files ?

Personally, if you can afford downtime, I would prefer to detach the
database files, then move them manually, then use CREATE DATABASE ... FOR
ATTACH.

database files, then move them manually, then use CREATE DATABASE ... FOR
ATTACH.
