Default Trying to get Sql Server Mngmt Studio on new computer.. 2005 - 05-17-2010 , 08:56 AM

Hello All,

Evidently it has been too long.... I have been running Mngmt Studio 2005 on
another computer for quite a while... I now have a new Win7 64-bit computer
and I am trying to find the originial mngmt studio installation files
(thought they were on the sql server 2005 cds)...

a couple of questions:

[1]I tried to install the 64bit express version but, it would not install
(is this a good idea, or will I run into limitations)?

[2]Where are the full-version studio files for installation? Are they
downloadable?

thanks..

It's not really clear what you mean here. If memory serves, Express
Edition for SQL 2005 was 32-bit only. Possibly, you are trying to install
SQL Express 2008. In any case, the tools are always 32-bit.

They are on the second installation CD for SQL 2005. As far as I know
the tools are downloadable. However, you shold make sure that you install
Service Pack 3 after installation of SSMS 2005. (Or Service Pack 1 for
SQL 2008, if you go for SQL 2008.)
