Default Tools that support Importing directly from Reports - 03-07-2010 , 06:32 AM

My office often gets accounting data from clients in the form of
reports. These reports can be output into text files but we then need
to parse the report output (not CSV or any other useful import format)
to import it into SQLServer. I have identified a class of tools that
enables a user to open a text file report and mark up the report,
identifying headers, fields, etc so that the report can be parsed and
imported directly into the database. Some of the tools I found are:

- Data Import
- Import Wizard
- TextConverter

I was wondering if anyone has experience using such tools for
importing data? If you do, am I missing any good tools that are "must
have" for this class of problem?

I've never used it, but the tool I've seen discussed for this has been
around for something like 20 years, and appears to still be in active
development:

Thanks for pointing out the Monarch tool. This tool looks like the
gold standard! Thanks again.
