Default SSMS External Tools - 11-12-2009 , 03:29 PM

When I select my external tool SSMS prompts me (through all unsave tabs) to
save each unsaved tab.

How do I get SSMS to just start my exe without having to save or cancel
every open/unsaved tab?

I guess the answer is that you don't. I have the same problem when closing
SSMS.

You can file a suggestion on http://connect.microsoft.com/sqlserver/feedback
for such an option.

As a matter of fact, I found
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLSer...dbackID=347003
which discusses precisely this.

I would expect to be prompted to save all unsaved work prior to closing SSMS,
granted if I have executed the alter or create already and have not made any
other changes since, then it would be nice to not be prompted (but I can live
with it).

I have reposted the feedback as suggested at the link below in the Visual
Studio Connect Site here:
https://connect.microsoft.com/Visual...dbackID=512328

Adding that you can reproduce and vote that it is important won't hurt in
getting a fix faster.

I think it has moved over to these "social" forums. The URL
is something like social.msdn.microsoft.com.

Sorry, I misread your posting, I thought you were asking where the forums

No this is the place, I got here by logging into my MSDN subscription and
clicking the Microsoft Managed Newsgroups link.

Let me ask the question differently?

Why aren't I getting my MSDN Managed Newsgroup support?

Maybe they forgot to update the link? But you may be right, this may
still be the place.

Anyway, you need to register your display name, so that the MSDN people
who monitor the groups will see your post pop in whatever tool they use?
