Forgive the "cross-posting," but I wasn't sure of the best group for this question. I am installing some software on SBS 2003, and it appears the SQL Management Studio is not on this server. I need to have this. Does SQL Management Studio not come with the SQL Server that's included with SBS? If so, why would it not be on this server? If not, what's the easiest way for me to get it and install it on this server? Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

Is it SBS 2003 or SBS 2003 R2? If the former, then you should have Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer, since the original SBS 2003 shipped with 2000 Standard Edition. If the latter, then you should have Management Studio alongside 2005 Workgroup Edition. If it is not there, then it is probably just one of the checkboxes someone forgot to check (or unchecked) during installation. SO, you can: (a) go through setup again (change from add/remove programs) and add the tools; (b) find SQLRun_Tools.exe on the SBS CD and run that directly; or, (c) manage the SQL Server instance remotely. I am not a lawyer but you should be able to install the tools from the SBS CD onto your workstation and manage it that way (you don't need the tools on the server, and someday soon you won't be able to anyway). If not then you can always obtain Management Studio from another edition (been a 2008 edition) such as Developer Edition ($49) or the free Management Studio Basic tool, a trimmed-down version that comes with Express 2008 w/tools and Express 2008 w/Advanced Services.
