Default SQL 2005 Profiler - DTA - SQL Server 2000 DB - 02-15-2009 , 10:03 PM

I would like to apply the SQL Server 2005 Profiler and Database Tuning
Advisor to server SQL Server 2000 databases. Will I have a problem using SQL
Server 2005 Profiler or database tuning advisor unable to analyze a SQL
Server 2000 database?

Please help me with this topic.

Thanks,

Default RE: SQL 2005 Profiler - DTA - SQL Server 2000 DB - 02-24-2009 , 11:51 AM

hey Joe!

I am also in the same position. I am optimizing a large SQL Server 2000
database and although a Profiler Trace + the Index Tuning Manager were able
to recommend some indexing strategies, I'd prefer to utilize DTA's
recommendations.

I don't believe there is any problem with applying DTA recommendations on a
SQL Server 2000 catalog...but there may be some backwards compatibility
issues regarding sql syntax - and types of query hints you can apply...

Please advise if you have proceeded to use DTA for optimizations to your SQL
Server 2000 catalog.

Cheers,
John A.
