Default Retrieve column headings from query - 05-13-2008 , 12:08 PM

I'm using both SQL Server 2000 & 2005. I often perform queries and need to
copy the (grid based) results into Excel 2007. The problem is, the column
headings are not included. Is there a setting to change this? Otherwise, I
have to manually type the column headings by hand.

BillG_SD,

With SQL Server 2000 tools, I don't know a way to do this. However, with
SQL Server 2005 Management Studio, there is a option on the query result
sets.

Menu path Tools / Options brings up an Options form.

In the tree structure on the left side:
Query Results / SQL Server / Results to Grid

Click on the option: Include column headers when copying or saving the
results

And, of course, the 2005 tools can be used against SQL Server 2000 and it
all works the same.
