Default Query Analyzer isqlw.exe application hang with Object Browser - 10-09-2008 , 08:18 AM

I was working, running queries in Query Analyzer on my PC desktop
(running XP Pro) against a SQL2K instance on a server on our LAN. When
all of a sudden the Object Browser disappeared.

When I click on the menu option in QA to show the Object Browser, the
application hangs; there is a corresponding hang entry in the Event
Log->Applications view on my PC.

The SQL 2K database was patched to SP4 last year and has been working
stably. I've been using QA from this PC for the past year with no issues.

Queries can still be executed against the server in the QA window onmy
desktop. I am also able to browse the database objects using Enterprise
Manager. Only the Object Browser in QA is broken, as far as I can tell.

I've tried both Windows Authentication and SQL Authentication. The
results are the same.

I've rebooted my PC. No change.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
T

Further specific detail: the system hangs temporarily when the mouse
hovers on the Tools->Object Browser menu option. Don't even have to
click on the Object Browser menu option. After about 60 seconds, the
submenu with Show/Hide on it appears.

I suppose that symptom makes this a WinXP desktop issue.
