Default Multiple copies of the same file - 09-26-2008 , 11:21 AM

In SSMS, if I open a query file a second time it just flips me back to the
tab with the first time I opened it - even if I'm trying to run the query
against a different database on a different server. (In the Query Analyzer
you could open the same file as many times as you wanted.)

Yes, this is a difference in behavior. I think it helps in one way... It
eliminates the possibility of you having the file open twice, making changes
to one, saving, then making changes in the other and saving that one,
inadvertently over-writing your first set of changes. Think about Word or
Visual Studio; you can't open the same file multiple times there either.

Note that if you haven't made any changes to the file, you can simply
right-click inside the query window, and choose "Connection > Change
Connection"...
