Default Monitoring Tools - 12-19-2005 , 01:52 AM

We need to get some monitoring tools in house and was wondering what you use
at your organisation ?

We were thinking either the tool from Quest or from Symantec ( i3) . Let me
know if anyones using that and the pros and cons or if theres anything
better.

Thanks

Hassan,
What type of monitoring do you want to do?
Performance or System Stats?

Have a look at this http://www.gajsoftware.com . It's not to market as yet
(very soon)

Asking for suggestions on monitoring admin tool.
Have 80instances and need produce backup reports , get version of all
instances and every month need to collect informations like number of
databases / sizes / etc. I want a admin server that collect
information from all instances.

Anyone know any good tool for this purpose.
I heard about SQL FARM but seems too expensive.

Appreciate if you can say tools and if possible features and average
price.

Appreciate any comments on this subject.

Thanks...Rick

I have not found any of the popular or frequently advertised products to be
true enterprise solutions. We built our own tool to address those specific
concerns.

With 2008 we now have the Management Data Warehouse available to us. I'd
recommend leveraging it's capabilities and centrallizing the backup jobs.

Want kind of changes you will like monitor ?
For SQL Version Control you can use Randolph (http://
www.nobhillsoft.com/Randolph.aspx).

"...Its light-weight, easy to use tool that runs in the background and
keeps track of all your databases schema and data changes over time,
and enables full review of databases' history, and full rollback to
any point in time, as well as optionally push changes into existing
systems (Subversion, SourceSafe or Team Foundation Server)".
