Default MDF and LDF File Sizes - 08-19-2003 , 02:59 PM

greetings - have a 'pre-live' or 'about to go live' application, and have
recently
noticed a curiosity. in all cases but one, my '***.MDF' files are many times
larger
than the corresponding '***.LDF' files.
makes sense.
in the mystery case, the '***DATA.MDF' is 458,048 kb. and the corresponding
'***DATA.LDF' is (ready?) 1,219,712 kb.
seems about backwards, but there you go.
comments, suggestions, 'polite' chuckles and jibes all welcome.
yuck and guffaw if you must.
TIA.

The oddball can arise for the following reasons:

1. Your DB model is not Simple Recovery and you have not backed up the log frequently enough or at all.
2. You have executed one or more huge transactions since the last time the log was backed up. See above.
