Default If I install the Server tools off the Eval CD will the tools expire? - 10-07-2008 , 02:29 PM

I need SQL Server Management Studio (32 bit) on my workstation.
If I download the evaluation version of SQL 2005 and just install the tolls,
will they expire when the 180 days or how ever long the eval period is?

Thanks

Kelvin

I haven't seen expired tools yet. SQL Server services are expired, not tools
I believe.

However, I think there is a confusion with the licensing of Client Tools of
SQL Server. Even though I talked to some guys from Microsoft, nobody was
able to tell me a certain answer about this matter.

Once, I got an answer from Microsoft about this and the lady who answered my
question simply said that: "You don't need to buy any seperate license for
SQL Server Client Tools". However, Microsoft has a tool which is called "SQL
Server Management Studio Express". If Client Tools would be for free, then
one would be able to download the SSMS itself, not SSMSE and use it with SQL
Server Express Editions. But this is not the case. Also, other Client Tools
(such as SQL Profiler or DTA) are not shipped with SQL Server Express
Edition and they can't be downloaded seperately for free.

So, here's what I think: I think Client Tools would not expire after 180
days of installation (but SQL Server services will not be runnable after
this period) and Client Tools practically will be usable. However, I think
it'll be against licensing rules using these tools after this period.
