Hello
I am having the exact same problem (upgraded from 05 to 08). Did you end up finding a solution?
Thank you

Full Text Catalog Population Error
11-Feb-09
A month ago I upgraded a database from Sql Server 2005 to 2008. The
fulltext indexes worked fine until recently. Suddenly nothing works.
I've tried repopulating the catalog several times to no avail. The
crawl log shows every row and every index having the following error
(there are no successes):
Error '0x80070005' occurred during full-text index population for
table or indexed view '[tablename]' (table or indexed view ID
'indexvalue', database ID 'dbid'), full-text key value 'keyvalue'.
Attempt will be made to reindex it.
The Event viewer shows:
The fulltext filter daemon host (FDHost) process has stopped
abnormally. This can occur if an incorrectly configured or
malfunctioning linguistic component, such as a wordbreaker, stemmer or
filter has caused an irrecoverable error during full-text indexing or
query processing. The process will be restarted automatically.
Any ideas?
