Default 'Comment out' icon for SQL scripts in SMSS vs VS - 06-09-2008 , 05:39 PM

In both SMSS and Visual Studio, there are icons to comment out lines (looks
like a stack of parallel lines, with the top and bottom lines longer on the
left), and to uncomment lines. When I use these icons in SMSS while writing
SQL scripts, they work as expected (i.e. they add two hyphens in front of the
highlighted lines). However, in Visual Studio, when I create a SQL Server
Project, and Add a Test Script, the same icons are grayed out (i.e.
unavailable), which I find very annoying. I've tried different Toolbars in
VS, but I can't find icons that will comment out and uncomment SQL script the
same way as SMSS does. Are such icons available in VS?

Hi Ed,
I reproduced your issue at my side. This is most likely by design, however
I have not found any document clearly talk about it. I am trying to confirm
this with our product team and may need more time to get back to you. I
appreciate your patience. Currently I recommend that you manually comment
out/uncomment SQL script or edit the script in SSMS.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know.

Charles Wang

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for

Please note that each follow up response may take approximately
2 business days as the support professional working with you may
need further investigation to reach the most efficient resolution.
The offering is not appropriate for situations
