i am having an issue upgrading my clustered (active-
passive) SQL 2000 sever to sp3a.
with all sql processes online, from the active node, i
start the upgrade. after asking sa passwords, user
passwords & the 'send report to microsoft' screen, the
install chugs away and then reports a dialog box "setup
failed to perform requireed operations on the clustered
nodes'
ms knowledge base article q321063 gives two examples of
what might be going on, but they are of little help. one
says 'upgrade to latest service pack' & the other states
to create virtual clusters which i have already.
in the sqlspx.log files the passive node has an
message 'could not find out whether the sql server was
online' which would be the problem, but sp3a shuts down
the clustered sql services during the install.

is this a case of chicken & egg? or am i missing something
simple the sp3 install doc doesn't spell out?
