Default Upgrade from MSDE to SQL Server 2000 Developer - old instances not deleted - 07-11-2003 , 09:06 PM

I have recently upgraded from MSDE to SQL Server 2000 Developer. I had two
instances under MSDE - vsdotnet and netsdk. The upgrade (using the default
instance) worked OK but the vsdotnet server still shows up on the list of
servers in SQL Service Manager. It says its not connected if you try to
select it - its just annoying and I would like to make it go away.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I am not clear on what the issue is.
Even after you upgrade MSDE to SQL Dev it will still show up in the Service
Manager as a valid instance.
Look at ARP and see if the instance was changed from 'Microsoft SQL Server
Desktop Engine <instancename>' to 'Microsoft SQL Server <instancename>'
which is one indication that it was upgraded properly.
How did you upgrade the MSDE instance and was it successful? What did the
log say after upgrade?
