Hi, all! Running Win7 x64, latest patches; VS 2010 installed also,
WITHOUT SQL Server Express.

I'm trying to get SQL Server (any edition) to install under the above
machine. Is there a trick to getting this to work? When the VS
installer attempted to install Express it failed; when I tried to
install the Dev Edition it failed; when I tried installing the full
license of SQL Server 2008 it also failed. Is 2008 not ready to be
installed under Win7? Should I be trying 2005 instead? I've read a
lot of problems with this, and I really need to move forward on a new
project.

Any suggestions welcome.

version. i've always installed the OS > SQL > Visual Studio. then run
the updates from windows update
