Default trial expired - -where do i enter my license - 07-09-2009 , 01:06 PM

OK. I made the mistake of putting a trial version of sql 2008 on my
computer. I have a valid Microsoft Action Pack license for the
product. Here is my problem:

I cannot find the place where I can enter the code or any instructions
on how I should switch from the trial to my Standard edition.

Can anyone help out?

You should uninstall the expired Evaluation Edition instance and reinstall a
Standard Edition instance.

Uninstalling should not be necessary. Evaluation -> Standard is a supported
upgrade path.

So, you are saying to run the Install of the Licensed Product?

Yes, and the select the upgrade option.

Before you move on, you should ask yourself if you have used any features
that only are available in Enterprise Edition, and thus will not be
accessible in Standard Edition.

Yes it's a supported path, but the Evaluation Edition is expired in this
situation. As far as I remember that's why it should be uninstalled. I'll
test to upgrade an expired Evaluation Edition to Standard Edition on a test
machine when I'm available.

It may be that Microsoft says 2008 Trial to 2008 Standard is a
supported upgrade path, but I still can not determine how to upgrade.

I have tried to do a full installation of 2008 Standard and an upgrade
installation.

The full 2008 Installation will not complete. It requests that I
select features to install -- all options are selected -- then it
says, "To continue one or more features must be selected."

The upgrade install points to another instance [sql express] that I do
not want to upgrade and will not allow me to select the regular 2008.

I appreciate any help.

You can pick the Install path, but then you need to install a new instance.

And it does not permit you to select the instance with Evaluation Edition?

In that case, it may be as Ekrem said, you need to uninstall Evaluation
Edition. Note that you can reattach your user databases once your install
is done.

Unfortunately, I cannot give not that much more advice. The situation you
are in is somewhat labourous to set up. :-)

Thanks, Erland. I just thought there might be some way to install
without going to another instance. In this case, I actually needed to
avoid that, for testing purposes.

I appreciate your help and Ekrem's help.

Thank you! ! !
