Default SQL Server Standard on Win2k Desktop - 07-13-2003 , 11:08 PM

I have a client who is considering running SQL Standard
Edition on a Win2k Desktop PC for a production system.

Is this allowable or do MS insist/specify/regulate that
it must installed on a Server version of OS software?

Any help appreciated so my I can advise my client
accordingly.

Cheers

Yes, you're absolutely right.

It even says so in BOL under the Software requirements
for Installation heading.

I really should have thought to look there first.

Thanks faiga

Steve,

In my experience, MS SQL server version cannot be
installed to a Windows 2K Professional (or the desktop
version). The installer automatically sends an error
message when installing the server components to a win2K
Pro and prompting the user that it will only install the
client side of SQL server.

Maybe other DBA can help solve this.

cheers too,
faiga
