SQL Server Analysis Services - Clustered -

Hi folks
I'm looking for some advice/guidance.
I have installed 3 instances (defailt, inst01, inst02) of SQL Server 2005
SP3 EE (64) on a Windows 2003 cluster. Each instance has its own resource
group. inst02 is the dev counterpart of production instance default. inst01
is another application altogether. I was recently informed by the developer
(for default/inst02) that they require SSAS. So, keeping in mind that I don't
have a lot of experience with SSAS, I'm thinking that the best solution would
be to create another resource group, complete with IP, server name, and disk,
and then install SSAS in a clustered config with its own instance name
(inst03). That way it is autonomous from all other instances, and can be
shared by all. Does this make sense?
The reason I ask, is that when I did a dry run of the install, and selected
"create an Analysis Server failover cluster" from the components page, it
allowed me to install to an existing instance (inst02), but required a unique
virtual server name. So tell me, if I were to specify a unique virtual server
name would it then be added to the resource group that contained inst02, or
would it require its own resource group and instance?
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
Most confusing. I couldn't find anything on the net that spoke directly to
this.
Thanks in advance. |
