I was trying to install sql server 2008 on windows server 2008 R2, but it
fails with error 2337 without installing it. Any ideas?

It seems the problem is with installing .Net framework 3.5 SP1. I think
either it will be corrupted or not able to access the setup file during
installation.
You can get .Net 3.5 SP1 setup file in SQL 2008 DVD else download it from
internet and give a try. Probably it should be available in features page on
windows 2008 r2.

The problem was one DLL wich for some reason was causing the problem, so I
downloaded again (eval. version) and it installed without a problem.
