I have installed SQL server standard edition 2008 SP1 from a CD on a new computer with Server 2003 SP2. When I start the SQL Server Installation Center and try to add a new SQL server stand alone installation, I get a browse for folder pop up window. I have tried select the CD drive where the installation disc resides and diferent SQL folders on the C drive but none of them work. Has anyone had this issue and what needs to be done to resolve the problem? |

Which folder do you select? -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esquel (AT) sommarskog (DOT) se Links for SQL Server Books Online: SQL 2008: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/cc514207.aspx SQL 2005: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/bb895970.aspx SQL 2000: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...ons/books.mspx . |

Yes, I selected the x86 folder on the CD but it does not like this selection. It states that this is not an installation directory. |

What happens if you skip the SQL Server Installation Centre, and instead start the main Setup exe on the CD? -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esquel (AT) sommarskog (DOT) se Links for SQL Server Books Online: SQL 2008: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/cc514207.aspx SQL 2005: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/bb895970.aspx SQL 2000: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...ons/books.mspx . |

This is the file name from the CD SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x86-ENU if I open this file it installs SQL 2008. There are no other EXE files on the CD. |

No wonder that SQL Server Installation Centre does not want to use it. And from the name, I would not expect to get an new installation of SQL 2008, but well an upgrade to SP1. -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esquel (AT) sommarskog (DOT) se Links for SQL Server Books Online: SQL 2008: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/cc514207.aspx SQL 2005: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/bb895970.aspx SQL 2000: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...ons/books.mspx . |

So, you think the file on the disk is an upgrade to SQL 2008?? -- Joe Dan Brown "Erland Sommarskog" wrote: JD (JD (AT) discussions (DOT) microsoft.com) writes: This is the file name from the CD SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x86-ENU if I open this file it installs SQL 2008.
