Default SQL Server 2005 - Installation of Business Development Studio. - 10-08-2009 , 06:16 AM

Hi,

We have a newly-installed server with MS SQL Server 2005 installed on it.
SQL Server Management Studio (the 2005 version) is also installed and
operational. However, we cannot seem to subsequently get Business Development
Studio [2005] now installed on this machine.

At present I am therefore having to use the copy of BDS installed on my
desktop PC to manage certain of the facilities on the SQL Server box, but I
am not certain that this has access to all of the facilities that it would do
if it were being run direct on the SQL Server box.

Other than de-installing SQL Server 2005 on the server (and then retrying to
install SQL Server, Management Studio and BDS all at the same time) - which
is not an option - any suggestions for getting BDS to work on the SQL Server
box?

Thanks.

What does "cannot seem" mean? How are you trying to install BIDS? Are you
getting an error message when you do so? If so, what is the exact error
message? (Note that you may have to check the setup logs for the details,
there should be a link made available to you at the last step in setup.)

It does not appear on any Program Menu following completion of the
installation procedure.

It is definitely selected from the appropriate place on the set-up routine,
and although the installation process runs through quite happily with no
error messages and seems to have been installed, it just does not appear.

We have run through a similar installation routine on my desktop PC to just
install BDS and the SQL Server Management Studio (although not SQL Server
itself), and this has installed BDS fine, so we know that we are picking up
the correct items on the set-up routine.

Does the log file say anything useful? Did you search on the unsuccessful
machine for the EXE file that the shortcut on the successful machine points
to? (Just because the shortcut didn't make it to the Start menu doesn't
mean it's not there.) What about differences between the two machines?
Does one machine have Visual Studio- or SQL Server-related stuff that the
other machine doesn't have?
