Default SQL Server 2000 and Express Coexisting - 12-28-2005 , 10:19 AM

Hello. I am troubleshooting an installation of SQL Server Express for a
client of mine. His configuration is similar to mine. I have SQL Server
2000 and Express installed and both work just fine. His installation failed.
I had him send me the installation log, but I don't really know how to read
it. However, I will post the last few lines of the file here:

MSI (s) (6C:F4) [05:58:11:359]: Note: 1: 1708
MSI (s) (6C:F4) [05:58:11:359]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
Edition -- Installation failed.

MSI (s) (6C:F4) [05:58:11:375]: Cleaning up uninstalled install packages, if
any exist
MSI (s) (6C:F4) [05:58:11:375]: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
MSI (s) (6C:B8) [05:58:11:484]: Destroying RemoteAPI object.
MSI (s) (6C:68) [05:58:11:484]: Custom Action Manager thread ending.
=== Logging stopped: 12/27/2005 5:58:11 ===
MSI (c) (C8:B8) [05:58:11:546]: Decrementing counter to disable shutdown. If
counter >= 0, shutdown will be denied. Counter after decrement: -1
MSI (c) (C8:B8) [05:58:11:546]: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
=== Verbose logging stopped: 12/27/2005 5:58:11 ===

Note the "Installation failed" line toward the end. Is there anyone here
who knows how to read these files and what I should look for? If need be, I
can send the entire log file to you.

Thanks!

Hi

Before this line there should be more information and a specific line that
failed. You may want to try using the verbose logging option /L*v (if you
are using the msi).
