Default SQL 2008 installation completes with errors on Windows 2008 - 01-04-2010 , 07:11 PM

I have tried multiple installs on several different servers and they all
complete with errors. The Error is access denied when installing the Database
engine, Analisys and reporting services.

I have checked everything I can think of and UAC is turned off on these
systems. Installation account and service account are both in the local
administrators group.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

I have exactly the same problem. I didn't find a way to solve it yet.
Sql server 2008 64bit with SQL Server 2008 R2 standard (64bit).

a bug report has been opened here :

https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLSer...n-an-exception

please vote to increase the priority of process by microsoft.

Most of all, attach the error logs that Microsoft are asking for in
their comments. They need this to be able to diagnose the problem.
If you are not permitted to attach files to that bug, I suggest that
open a new one, and refer back to the old one.

I am having this same problem "external component has thrown an exception"
trying to install sql server 08 on a W server 2008 machine. Have you found a
resolution yet?
