Default SQL 2008 Cluster -- Adding Analysis Services - 01-15-2009 , 08:11 AM

I have a two node SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition cluster on Windows
Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I'd like to add SSAS to the existing cluster
installation. When I attempt to do this using "New Installation or Add
features". When I get to the rule check at the end of the install wizard it
fails stating that the instance is clustered and to choose another instance.
I also tried adding via Add/Remove Programs to change the installation by
adding SSAS, but this results in the same error. How can I install SSAS to
an existing cluster installation?

Thanks

Hi Adam - just wondering whether you ever got SSAS installed onto the cluster?

Thanks

Hi

I encountered this issue some time ago and never succeeded in adding
Analysis Services to the existing SQL instance. In the end I gave up
had to add Analysis Services as a separate named instance, although
this wasn't what I'd intended.

I'd be interested to know if you followed this up with Microsoft as I
wonder if it is actually a bug now that I see others experiencing a
similar issue?

Thanks

Default SQL Analysis Service issue - 07-28-2010 , 11:51 AM

I found the following Note inside SQL Server 2008 Failover Clustering whitepaper :

Note: SQL Server 2008 does not support adding features to an existing failover cluster instance, so Analysis Services cannot be added to an existing instance of SQL Server. To share a resource group with an instance of SQL Server, you must choose to install Analysis Services during the initial installation of SQL Server.

or of course install it on a new clustered instance
