I'm trying to install SQL Server 2000 SP3a on a Windows 2003 server as a pre-requisite for a MS Project Server 2003 Install. However when I apply the service pack the system fails to authenticate either the sa account or the windows service account. I have read up on the bug362960 which tells me to change registry settings and remove spaces from the environment variables path, and I have upgraded to MDAC 2.8, but the bug still appears and refuses to accept either password. Any Ideas Suggestions ???

i spent ages trying to get this going - in sql enterprise manager, go to security and make sure that the NT system account is a member of the db admin type roles (i just added it to all of them out of desperation - it is only a dev machine after all)

that fixed it.
