Default Service Pack Upgrade Missing Language - 03-12-2009 , 05:11 AM

Hi,

I'm trying to install SP3 on SQL 2005 and I can't tick the box for Database
services, Analysis Services and reporting services as "This update requires
language ENU. The language for product instance TEST is. Download the update
for language."

I ran
exec sp_configure "default language",0
reconfigure
and restarted the service but the install seems to be picking up the
language from somewhere else.

Does anyone have any ideas?

According to the server properties tab from management studio, Language is
"English (United States)". The SP file is sql..x86-ENU.exe

I did modify the language over a year or so ago using
sp_configure ("Default Language") ,23

to make it British English and I put it back to US by running it again with 0.

Is there another setting that the service pack uses to identify the
language? I tried making the machine US English in the regional settings as
well just in case, but no luck. So my real question is: how can I fool the
service pack into allowing the update on the current server. This is only a
test box (which is why I am so out of date with the SP....)

What's your SQL Server's language? I mean what language is used for the
menus and texts in the product.

For instance, if your SQL Server is in German, then you need to download the
German version from Microsoft Download. Maybe you did this, at least you
thought you did but changing a language from the dropdown list in the
download page does not change the download's language automatically, you
need to click the Change button near the language drowndown list. So you
might have downloaded a different language from your SQL Server's language
so you are getting this error now. This, of course, is just a scenario =)
