Default Running SQL Native Client - 07-26-2009 , 12:29 PM

Hello:

We have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit on our 64-bit Windows Server
2003.

Also, we have a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 that has an application that
connects to SQL databases on this SQL 2005 server through the Native Client
ODBC.

Now, the version of SQL on that 64-bit server is 9.00.4035 (SP3). Is there
a certain required Native Client version that is needed on the other server
that connects through ODBC?

I guess my question is: When you have SQL 2005 on its server at the SP3
"level", is there an updated Native Client Driver that needs to be installed
on machines that connect to that server through ODBC? We got our Native
Client through the following URL, originally:

There is an update version of SQL Native Client that comes with service
pack, but you can still run the RTM version of the driver against SP3. I
can't think of any interoperational issues. The only reason to use the
updated driver is to get bug fixes.
