Default "Restart computer" problem - 04-06-2009 , 01:53 PM

Hi,

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 x64 on Vista Ultimate SP1
x64. No matter how times I restart I can't get past the Failed
Restart Computer error. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,
invegat

That can happen with a bad registry key.

This article is about SQL 2000, but the same fix applies.

Try the below

* Open Regedit
* Find the key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Session Manager"
* Rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value to
"PendingFileRenameOperations2"
* Run SQL Server setup and then install it.

Hi,

Not wanting to leave orphaned dlls I uninstalled my Logitech webcam,
that removed the PendingFileRenameOperations value and enabled me to
install SQL Server 2008.

Thanks,
