Default Removing Instances of SQLServer Express 2008 - 02-03-2009 , 08:31 AM

Hello all,

I am getting crazy, PLEASE HELP!

After several times of try and error by installing SQLServer 2008 Express,
by the time now I have got an installation without Management studio and
many instances.

I cann't remove (deinstall) it, because Vista x86 tells that I need to have
Windows installer version 4.5 or later to be able to deinstall it. Okay, I
have downloaded and tried all versions of Windows installer and non of these
installations worked on my machine. And in the list of installed programms I
see that I already have windows installer 4.5 SDK ínstalled on my
machine. Why deinstallation doesn't work despite the existing installation of
windows installer? Can't understand and why none of offered windows
installers from Microsoft's website don't work?

By the way, I need to remove the instances or remove the current installed
vesion at all. I think SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe contains also the management
studio, as I try to upgrade, It upgrades but Management studio doesn't
appead in the programm list.

Please give me an advice, I need one instance of SQLSErver 2008 Express
edition + Management studio and two working days have went by ...

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If your upgrade is successful and the problem is with missing management
studio then you can install SSMS from the installation. You have downloaded
SQL Express 2008 with advanced services which has bundled with SSMS (in
SQL2k5 you have separate download for management studio). So start the
installation again (using SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe) and in the feature
selection page deselect all the components except workstation components and
then click next to start installing SSMS, BOL etc.

Thanks,
Vidhya Sagar
