I am getting an error installing KB970895 with a popup t:\elling me it can not find sqlrun_sql.msi on a missing network resource with some unused drive letter and a long hex directory (e.g. "g:\14f00771b54c469cdd2a606164\Setup"). The hex directory name may be different each time. I saw some reports of this after a web search, one of which pointed at this kb article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957008/ Which says -- in summary -- "look at the SQL 2005 users groups to find any that are empty then add it to them" without really being explicit about what "it" (that is, which user) should be added. The closest it gets to specific is "the service account". Moreover, it's no big help if the groups are /not/ empty. So ... I want to try to uninstall SQL server, and ... I can't! The error flashes by so fast it's hard to catch, but inI find the log files and, guess what? It, too, is having problems finding sqlrun_sql.msi on a missing network resource. (This time "g:\5c37946b97d73d8b7def8b1904"). What is sqlrun_sql.msi and where should it be found? Is it something that should have been left behind when I installed SQL server? Is it something that should be coming in the KB package? And why is it always complaining about a missing network resource?? Attached are the log files for both an attempt to install the kb and an attempt to uninstall the server. The uninstall logs are in the cab file. One of the errors in the kb install attempt is a failure to add the log files to the cab file, so I zipped them up. -- -Richard M. Hartman 186,000 mi/sec: not just a good idea, it's the LAW! |
