Default .net 3.5 installation failed - 02-02-2009 , 01:23 AM

I have read every thread I can find in this feed and cannot locate one
solution that will fix my problem. I have a Server 2008 R2 installation and
am trying to install SQL 2008 Enterprise on it. I continue to get the
following:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed.
SQL Server 2008 setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to eb installed.

I got my copy of SQL Server through my TechNet subscription. .NET 3.5.1 is
installed per the feature installer within Server 2008. I have removed and
reinstalled .NET 3.5 a dozen times with reboots between each. I still am
unable to install SQL 2008. I even replaced the netfx35x64.exe within the
install folder like was suggested in another thread concerning something like
this (except it was for SQL 2008 Express on a Vista box).

I need help. Thanks.

Well, that's the tough part. There ere no events logged for this attempted
install. Am I missing a log file somewhere? I'm looking in the event manager.
There are no entries for this problem.

Since it was not a clean install of the operating system, I will probably
blow this system away tonight and do a format during the install. I will then
touch base and let everyone know if it took care of the problem.

That didn't work. Still get the same error before it can even begin logging
any actions it stops dead in its tracks.

Now I'm getting desperate and am ready to fall back to Server 2003.

Now I'm sure you are all reading these one sided conversations with glee. I
rebuilt my system for no reason. The installation file for dotnetfx35.exe is
corrupt in the downloadable installation. I found the resolution on a
non-Microsoft site. I had to download the latest dotnetfx35.exe from MS
Downloads and replace it. That got me past that step, now I'm getting a
different error:

Unable to open Windows Installer file
'G:\InstallationSources\SQL2008\x64\setup\sql_engi ne_core__inst_msi\sql_engine_core_inst.msi'.

Perhaps the download files in the TechNet download site are corrupted because
my checksum matches theirs and I've download it 3 times now and get the same
results.

Default having same issue - 02-25-2010 , 05:42 PM

not sure if I can help you, but I am having the same issue. Trying to install Sql Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.

First I get a warning about compatability issues, then I get "microsoft .NET framework 3.5 installation has failed".

I tried to manually install .NET framework, but then I got an error stating that I had to do it in role manager. I then installed the application server role, which installed (or says that it installed) .net framework 3.5, but I still get the same issue when I try to run the sql setup.

Default Fixing the setup before running setup didn't work - 02-26-2010 , 03:06 PM

[1] I've found this post:
http://blogs.msdn.com/psssql/archive...run-setup.aspx

I did apply the CU1, and I still get the same error about .NET 3.5 needed when running setup.

[2] I found this post, but I hesitate to follow:
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/...-net-fram.aspx

The installer confuses about the .NET 3.5 (32bit vs. 64bit)? There are both installed in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\.

Anyone please help!

blow this system away tonight and do a format during the install. I will then
touch base and let everyone know if it took care of the problem.

That didn't work. Still get the same error before it can even begin logging
any actions it stops dead in its tracks.

Now I'm getting desperate and am ready to fall back to Server 2003.

Now I'm sure you are all reading these one sided conversations with glee. I
rebuilt my system for no reason. The installation file for dotnetfx35.exe is
corrupt in the downloadable installation. I found the resolution on a
non-Microsoft site. I had to download the latest dotnetfx35.exe from MS
Downloads and replace it. That got me past that step, now I'm getting a
different error:

Unable to open Windows Installer file
'G:\InstallationSources\SQL2008\x64\setup\sql_engi ne_core__inst_msi\sql_engine_core_inst.msi'.

Perhaps the download files in the TechNet download site are corrupted because
my checksum matches theirs and I have download it 3 times now and get the same
results.

having same issue
not sure if I can help you, but I am having the same issue.
